RBSA Photography Prize Winner 2025

Kate is thrilled to be announced the winner of the Royal Birmingham Society Of Arts Photography Prize 2025.

"I was told I made art society folk law. Running late to the private view I arrived as the awards were being presented. I took the lift to the second floor, only to step out into a room full of people as my name was announced! “I hope the rest of your life is as well timed as that entrance” was the final remark ~ me too sir me too.”

Kate will be at the Gallery giving a talk about her work on the 15th March at 2pm.

ARTWORK

My work explores the relationship between humans and nature, viewing them as interconnected rather than separate. Using photography, collage, and mixed media, I examine themes of harmony, sexuality, and humour.

Humour and the fantastical are central, challenging expectations and offering a reimagined, dreamlike perspective on human presence within nature. By incorporating luxury brand iconography in my collage and sketchbook work, I explore the ironic sense of value we attach to things—questioning what we elevate, what we discard, and how ideas of status, beauty, and consumerism influence our perceptions. My work is influenced by the visual languages of art, design, and storytelling.

My Work

All of my artworks are created bespoke to order, using the finest quality materials. I collaborate with UK-based artisans, printers, and framers to ensure every piece is crafted to the highest standard. From traditional paper mediums—such as platinum print processes and digital prints on premium archival papers—to contemporary works printed on acrylic or presented in light boxes.

Every artwork is thoughtfully tailored to its environment, with custom framing and mounting options that complement both the piece and your space. Works are available either framed or unframed, allowing for a personalised finish. Selected pieces are available as signed, limited editions.

Bodyscapes,

Photography, collage, platinum print process

Bodyscapes created on the surreal and rugged landscapes of Iceland. It studies the meeting of two subjects to form surreal landscapes. Using abstract figures and body shapes, shot on Icleand’s black beaches to create shapes and forms which are mirrored in nature. Elements which are tactile by nature form a landscape in which body and land are combined. I aim to create a sense of curiosity within the viewer. A sense of questioning the subject before it reveals itself while creating a tactile sensation from the images texture.

Godess Of Love

Photography, collage

Goddess Of Love embodies figures such as Aphrodite and Venus who represent love, beauty, fertility, sex, prosperity and desire. Creating these collages is my way of reimagining the way the human form is represented in mythological art. While hinting at natural elements like the sea with the sand & salt on her skin, creating a more minimalist approach to composition by juxtaposing the elements of the temple and collage of her form.
